Subject: Getting cheap analog/digital connections.
Okay is there ANY way I can use BRI's to bring in a line that could be use
d for analog OR digital connections?
I was thinking of the 5 bri card, but this would be isdn to isdn ONLY
right? What if I wanted to make it so that if the call was analog, it
would connect to an analog modem and if its digital, just handle it as
such. The BRI cards are not modems are they.
One was I can think of to do it would be to use Ascend PIPE 25s that have
2 POTS on them. I would connect analog modems to the pots. When a digital
call comes in, the pipe just handles it. When an analog call comes in, it
would pass it off to one or the other of the pots, which has a modem on it
so it would answer the line, right?
The reasons I am considering this are...
1. PRI is still expensive here, altho not as bad, BRI's can be had for $58
per month
2. Pipe 25's are DIRT cheap and have 2 pots
3. Id get very clean digital connections (maybe use the new usr 576
standard?)
4. I can add 1 BRI as I need rather than having to buy and pay for a PRI
all at once!
5. BRI's are CHEAP to install with a 2 year contract. PRI's are 'spensive.
6. I can put all the BRi's in a hunt group.
SO lets look at cost...
Initial:
Install of BRI from SWBT: $85
Cost of a pipe 25 with 2 pots: $400
This could be a Livingston router - Im just using a PIPE 25 since I know
what they do and I have one.
Recurring:
Monthly from SWBT: $69 ($58+tax)
Okay so cost for EACH digital like is $35 month. Sounds good to me.
How does this compare to a PM3 and a PRI?
I think in the LONG run it may be better to go with an integrated unit.
however, I can keep cost low and if I get 1 bad bri, I can busy that out
and it will switch to the others, plus I have redundant routers, etc...
What do you guys thinK?
