You are probably also using in.pop3d, try out cucipop for pop3 mail, it
has worked here a lot better and it eliminates the duplicate files in the
/tmp directory. It can be had at
ftp://ftp.informatik.rwth-aachen.de/pub/packages/cucipop/cucipop.tar.gz

It really is a godsend, written by the author of procmail.
