Something I last heard when I accidentally said it while working at
Xylogics... ;-)
At one time it was a rather common saying - if you read older novels or
novels set earlier in the century (which I was doing at the time) you may
find characters using it.
Basically if you are dead you are laid out on your back - tits up.
There isn't anything sexual or sexist about it really - in fact it usually
got used when some guy in the story got whacked. And it also got applied
to inanimate objects, as in "Hell, the tractor's tits up again."
But now it isn't politically correct...
Language loses a lot of color that way. Which is about as dumb as a bag
of hammers...
