Another $.02 worth...

The Livingston-supplied cables with the PM3 didn't fit into my patch panel
scheme so I used my own homemade patch cable (I had some spare CAT5 cable
laying around for this but CAT3 would have worked fine). Theirs look a lot
prettier than mine but mine work just fine. I had the telco run BERT
testing to a hard loop on the end of these cables just to make sure. No
errors were found.

I saw the 50 foot T1 limit in my telecom books too but keep in mind that
there are two sorts of T1s in the world. There is the "classic" T1 from
years ago and then there are the HDSL T1s that most of us are seeing these
days. The HDSL unit sits in my phone room at the telco demarc and
regenerates the signal so that I've got plenty of signal at that point. It
is more than enough to go the 300+ feet to the computer room.
