I agree with you on this... But if it is the case then why modularize?
When I get an RMA box from Livingston I know they will work better than
whatever I had previously. With simply a mainboard I don't have to derack
the previous box and rerack the new one. It would only be a couple of
thumb screws.
Granted this is great until it's something with the backplane, but that's
an acceptable risk to me.
