I suspect these problems could be attributed to anything, from portmaster
config, to the ISPorte's themselves (we had problems with them before
requiring a ROM upgrade).
My question is, can someone pass me some tips on this issue, especially
from folks who use the ISPortes? We use a modem entry in the modems table,
one each for the USR and Microcoms. We use the Microcom recommended init
string in the microcom entry. Although we have the ports set to a modem
config from the table, Microcomm recommended that we do not setup the
portmaster to initialize the modems. Is this a bad idea?
Also, I think the problem could be attributed to some cabling problems.
We're running the HUGE rj45 cables that came with with the USRs that are
too long and ravelled up. Also, in a cable shortage, we substituted some
regular 10bt cables.
Can anyone recommend a type of cable to use (and possibly a source)
because we'd like to have some custom length cables made up.
Almost all of our ports have a gender changer on them because the USRs did
not ship with the proper gender db25-rj45 adapter. Can someone recommend a
source to get db25-rj45 adapters that are PRE-MADE? I don't have time to
wire up the do-it-yourself kind, and I don't want to take a chance in
making a stupid error on even just a couple of them.
Also, last but not least, we're using the really cheasy phone cords that
came with our modems (rj11-rj11). Can anyone recommend a source for some
QUALITY, sheilded ones, perhaps with the ferrite-core filters in them?
Any help would be appreciated.
