You don't need a Rockwell chipset to do K56Flex. K56Flex is not
controlled by Rockwell since it a combination of technologies from
Rockwell and Lucent. Licensing of K56Flex may actually be handled by the
Open56K forum.
Any modem manufacturer can license the K56Flex protocol and write their
own modem code. I believe Penril is doing 56K with their own DSPs.
I tend to doubt that USR will really be able to license K56Flex. Current
K56Flex licensing policies prohibit X2 and K56Flex in the same chassis.
I do believe that USR will be able to upgrade to the ITU standard with the
current hardware.
