Exactly.

A number of vendors did the inevitable and implemented Cisco's version at
least (the only strange thing about their HDLC is an additional byte with
random (?) contents between two sync marks in front of every packet that is
routed via a serial line.

Don't you see the obvious inconsistency? PPP is based on a synchronous serial
connection - using HDLC framing. 8-))))) So EVERYBODY _IS_ able to agree on
how it should be done.
