I'm very curious as well. Using BGP4 to multihome is being planned here for
the end of the year, however I'm still looking for some newbie-oriented
information on the protocol and setting it up properly. What I've read so
far is over my head, as the protocol seems fairly complex. We've done some
homework on finding another transit provider who would be BGP-friendly
(other than PBI, whom we currently use) and have tentatively settled on CRL.
At $$$/hour they'll apparently do the initial BGP configuration, but I've
been warned that it's "dangerous" to use without an experienced person
around to continually monitor and tweak the configuration.
Since we have two /22 and one /24 from PBI and could not possibly justify a
/19 from InterNIC (although someone has the forsight to obtain an ASN some
time back), I'm especially interested in learning the best way to implement
BGP4 for multihoming when the address space has been allocated from upstream.
Since Livingston was kind enough to include the "Easy Multihome"
pre-configured template, maybe someone will write a tech note or something
which describes a typical small to medium ISP situation such as described above.
Although I enjoyed the documentation regarding Livingston's implementation
of BGP4, I found that it left me with as many questions as it answered. In
many of the examples, there is a list of command line settings to be
performed, but no real explaination as to why those are the particular
settings (if that makes sense).
