FDT used to sell LOTS of Boca internal 28.8/33.6 modems. Now we can only
get Plug and Play versions which are difficult or impossible to use in
Win3.x or DOS systems...at least according to our PC techs.
I've used Sportster's myself since they were v.FC and have since upgraded
those to v.34 and now v.34bis...and only recently has my sportster at home
started acting up. Occasionally it just locks up and I can't xmit/recv
data until I power cycle it. Granted, I abuse the heck out of it,
leaving it on (and connected) 24/7 all the time. I was averaging 1-2 week
connect times until it started freezing.
I own several Microcom DeskPorte FAST modems...the ones with serial and
parallel connections, but they are all v.FC. Is anyone using v.34 or
v.34bis versions of these? Is it worth the $40-$50 Microcom will probably
want for the upgrade chips?
