One could also make an argument (however feeble) that if the user has
elected to turn off the SNMP module in the PortMaster, the PM no
longer has to comply with the SNMP RFCs (except for what to do on
that port of one doesn't do SNMP), and *could* allow counter
resetting.
But we don't find it very hard to keep a series of past counts (we
generate counts during the cron-driven daily processing). And
software could then give you "Sync errors since Tuesday," bytes out
through this port since Saturday," "for three days this modem has
been taking more calls than its neighbors," etc...which is more
difficult if you promiscuously reset counters (not bad if you do it
on a schedule and record the pre-reset values, but why bother).
