(PM) strange behavior with 'help'

I have a PM3 which has started to respond oddly to the 'help' command.
'help' on its own gives two *s, help <command> gives one *
A '?' responds with use ? or help for assistance !

Invalid command. Use 'help' or '?' for assistance.

Have I somehow turned off the help feature ?
