Jon,

All NASen have their share of modem incompatibilities. The portmaster
handles most of my customer's modems well (rockwell, USR and even some HCF
modems too).

However, some people (including myself) have been having problems with
ComOS 3.8 which have not been resolved by Lucent despite them being
reported months ago:

1) PRI panics on E1 (Euro-ISDN) lines in certain circumstances. This
caused the portmaster to continually reset the PRI which drops your users
and busies out the lines. Last I heard (from Lucent), this was due to a
faulty DSP on the pm3 mainboard. UNRESOLVED

2) ComOS 3.8.2 crashes, spontaneously rebooting the portmaster under
certain circumstances. I suspect that is some sort of memory leak, but
have not been able to produce conclusive proof yet. UNRESOLVED

I've submitted bug reports to Lucent about both these issues, but at
present they are not even answering my email. For the sake of fairness, I
should point out that these issues don't affect everyone, only a minority
of people. But if I am doing something wrong they haven't been able
to spot it yet and I've been using pm3s for 2 years now (and Livingston
stuff in general for 3 years). It's got to the point where I need to buy
another NAS and I can't justify buying another pm3 after the experiences
of the last 6 months.

YMMV

Regards,
