We just had a provider-contest going on, done by a swiss computer =
magazine.
they tested 15 providers and for analog calls, we ware by far the =
slowest!!!
They didn't have enlough space in their tables to show *how* slow we =
are...
ISDN was so so... (second half)
Why? Because they were using 3 com modems, and we seem to be amongst =
the
ones that have problems (or better: our portmasters) with 3com.
it's somewhat frustrating if you have a early unloaded 34 MBit/s link =
to the
pop they tested and you have plenty of bandwith to the internet, and =
the
tester say you can't connect, you get dropped and when it works, it's
sloooooow...=20
By the way, I own an US Robotics v.everything and an US Robotics =
Sportster
ISDN by myself. Both are unusable with the PM3.=20
The v.everything just retrains and renegotiates when connected with =
v.90
(and that on an anlog port of an ISDN line!) and the Sportster ISDN =
doesn't
get higher than about 2.5-4 Kbyte/s. Which protocol you take doesn't =
matter
(v.120, x.75, ppp).
I'd rather see lucent fixing things like this *quickly* than pointing =
out
such benchmarks. Of course, other NASes have problems as well, and yes, =
with
another modem we might have won. But that's really not very comforting =
if
you're the only one out of 15 tested providers that has such severe =
line
problems!
