Yup. We had all kinds of problems with Jaton Cirrus Logic based modems
and ComOS 3.8.2. The only fix we've found is to lock it to V.34. On the
Jatons you can do this with:
+MS=V34B,1,0,33600
I would guess that other CL based modems would be similar.
We've reported this one to Lucent support, and they're apparently
working on it. Interestingly, these modems worked okay on 3.8--lots of
renegs/retrains, but they seemed to connect without too many problems
unless the customer had line impairments. However, when we went to
3.8.2, they just quit working.

We've found that HCF modems work okay with us if they're running the
latest drivers. We put up a web page for our customers who have Compaq
computers with HCF modems--it points them to a location for downloading
the latest drivers, as well as a couple other fixes. It's at:

Of course, YMMV. Although we seem to do okay with HCFs that have been
upgraded, other people on this list have reported that no amount of
upgrading or speed limiting or jumping through hoops will fix an HCF on
their system.
