(PM) Disappearing hfile

I know this has been discussed on the list before, but I've been throught
the archives and couldn't find a conclusive answer to the problem.

I've just taken delivery of a new PM3 which came with ComOS 3.8
pre-insatlled. Everything seemed fine, except the hfile which appeared to
be missing. Having read about this on the list, I just re-flashed the
ComOS image with the image I use on my other pm3 and it seemed to work OK.
However, I just got this:

tallis> help
Help file open failed (hfile)
Invalid command. Use 'help ' for assistance.

PM3 is running ComOS 3.8 which was uploaded using pminstall (version
3.5.3) for Linux. I use PMVision for configuration, but prefer the unix
tools for uploading images because I have used them for ages without
problems and it's more convenient.

Is there a problem with the UNIX tools and ComOS 3.8? If not, does anyone
have any ideas what might be causing this?
