The BAD CRC thing is probably the login prompt of the remote portmaster
being interpreted as a PPP in the case of PAP. This shouldn't prevent the
connection from working though, just make it look not so pretty.

I'd "set deb 0x51" and use the decoder on the livingston website which
should give you more details of why it won't connect.
