Can the PM be made to assign a WINS server address to the client, much
as it does the ip address (for users in the local PM database, or by
radius)?
People dialing in using NT often put the domain name in under their DUN
connection settings. This makes the PM deny them because the username is
sent in the form DOMAIN\username, such as LENOIR\dkite. So even if the
user dkite exists, it will be denied. If the user omits the domain name,
they are allowed to connect to the PM, but aren't authenticated to the
domain properly.
Windows seems to want the dial-up connection and the domain to be
authenticated at the same time, but this doesn't work well in this
situation (or any situation where you are not using Micro$oft RAS as the
ppp server). Is there some workaround? A way to get 95 and NT to log in
to the domain separately AFTER the dial up connection is made? What's
the best combination of settings in Network properties and DUN settings?
Any ideas or general observations appreciated. I know the specific
question deals with NT, but I would appreciate knowing how this could be
made to work in 95 as well.
Thanks for your time,
Doug
