>From my experiences with the SM56 (and I've had a lot lately, believe
me), the SM56 connects quite well to 3.8.2c2 so long as you have good
lines. On a very clean line, I've been getting 49,333 or 45,333 every
time without fail. The connections have been very stable as well.
Virutally no renegs/retrains. However, from dirty lines, you're right.
I can take my computer with the SM56, to my business, plug it into a
line, and wham!... 49,333, and stable as can be. Then, I'll take it
home, and plug it into my home line, and it won't even connect. If I
then plug it into another line I have at home, it connects, but only at
19.2. It seems that the SM56's performance is *highly* dependant on
line characteristics--even moreso than other modems. Of course, my SM56
is an ISA modem, and the latest driver for the ISA is build 62. I
believe there's a build 67 for the PCI version. Maybe it works better
on crappy lines.
