I would say that 5.44 is very stable with either current version of
PM3 comos. We've had them stay up for days on end. There are better
brands of the modem out there though. The cheaper ones have poorer
quality control. I just encountered one where the ring detector
wouldn't work. Some are also a problem when installing, as BIOS PNP
resources may not agree with Windows PNP resources. ie different IRQs.
I've seen them priced from $20 to $60.
