(PMOD) Problem with Telepath Voice Faxmodem

I have a customer with a Gateway 2k G6 350. The modem that he has inside
of it is a Telepath Voice Faxmodem Gateway part number 6000768. He has the
latest driver installed from Gateway's web site (driver revision
12/16/1998). I have tried to put S32=34 to disable the X2 portion of the
modem but it either doesn't connect at all or it is extremely unreliable.
I have also tried to put S32=98 in but it reacts about the same as the
S32=34, just at lower speeds.

Today I tried putting 2 commas at the end of the phone number to see if
that would help, and so far it seems to be working ok. What I am wondering
is if there are any chipset specific drivers that may be newer than the
ones on Gateway's web site that I can have him try and download.

I have ruled out the phone line issue because he can dial and connect to
one of our sister companies in town that is using USR Total Control racks
at about 48000 and he has a very stable connection.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Gabriel
