(PMOD) Sportster voice 33.6 pnp & HSP Micromodem 56k

Can anyone help me with init strings or whatever to get these two modems to
work better? The customer with the Sportster Voice 33.6 pnp fax internal
claims he can only connect at around 16000.

The customer with the HSP Micromodem 56K can't negotiate a connection with
our Portmaster (running COM OS 3.8.2) at all.

Please CC me as I recieve the digest form of the list.
