I've found that once you upgrade the drivers of these modems with
their actual drivers, not generic drivers, they connect at realitively
good speeds...

These, surprisingly, have been working great with us as well....

These modems were causing us troubles...not connecting at
all...but then with the upgrade to 3.8, things started shaping
up...but they were still only getting 28,800...even after the release
of 3.8.2c2 (which were are currently running now)...but once I
walked the customers through upgrading their drivers, they have all
been getting at least 38,000, but typically right around 44,000...I
did NOT get them to use beta drivers, just the latest released
drivers (1.35.1 for the FM-56P for example). I did find however that
I had to get most of the customers to put 2 or 3 commas after their
phone number for them to achieve the 40,000+ connection
speeds...some customers were not able to connect at all until after
I added the commas...

We don't have many, if any of these modems around....

Again, we don't have any of these modems around either....
Some modems that weren't listed in the list...
Creative Blaster Modems...in all cases but 1, upgrading the drivers
of the modem have allowed customers to go from 26,400 to 44,000
or higher when they connect.
Jaton modems...I haven't seen any of these yet, but the other
stores are starting to sell them, and they say they are getting at
least 49,333 every time they connect.
USR 56K V.90 ISA OEM Modems (New)...excellent, great, no
complaints at all...I love these modems...in most cases, they don't
even disconnect a user when call waiting is still enabled, it just
keeps on ringing to the person calling, unlike most other modems
which disconnect the user when call waiting is enabled (not soon
enough for them to answer the phone of course)...
USR 56K V.90 OEM Modems (Various dates)...again, MOST of
them are connecting at great speeds...only those 3 exceptions that
I have posted before have been causing me problems...I've found it
pretty much impossible to get any support for OEM USR modems,
which is unfortunate given the fact that they are typically such
great quality modems.
I have not made a customer (as of yet) resort to using Beta drivers
to connect to our PM3...it seems to be working VERY well for
most users...now it's just a matter of getting all the AOpen
modems (typically FM-56P modems around here) up to the latest
formal released drivers...
Since upgrading to 3.8.2c2, my calls for support and complaints
about 56K has gone down to almost none...down from probably 20
calls a day...probably average about 1 call a week now, if that...but
I can't express the importance that I have seen in making sure that
modems, especially those FM-56Ps are upgraded to their latest
driver...it seems to be making a world of difference...
The other thing that I have noticed is that many people don't will tell
you that they are connecting at fast rates, and being
disconnected...but what they are actually looking at is 115,200 as
their connection speed, which is of course, the modem saying "I
ahve no idea what I'm actually connected at", which is a sign of an
outdated driver, and typically they are only connected at 26,400 or
28,000....just as a side note, once I have upgraded the users
drivers, I have YET to be forced to use an init stirng with the
modem on the client's machine....
Good luck, and don't neglect upgrading the drivers! :-)
