I could have swore I just saw some discussion on this in the past couple
of days, but since the archive only goes to the 19th so far, and I
recently emptied out my trash, I'm now kicking myself. Anyways, I have a
customer who can connect find to my analog lines, but can't connect at
all to the 56k lines, he always gets the "couldn't negotitate" blah
blah.

We're running the latest non-beta release of the PM3 code. The modem is
a Xircom CreditCard Modem 56T running on a Toshiba laptop with Windows
95 and a firmware of 2.08 which seems to be the latest off the Xircom
site. I've ruled out that it is the phone lines, since another computer
he owns with a different modem can connect as high as 46k...

Things I've tried:

a) 1 to 3 commas. 2 commas seem to worked once or twice, but I could
never reproduce it with any charm.

b) Forcing "required to connect" for error checking. Tried this in
conjunction with commas. No go.

c) Forcing v.90 connections using ATS109=2, which is what was
recommended in the firmware upgrade README docs. This was tried with the
commas as well. No go.

His AT commands come back as:

ATI1 BAC7
ATI 2, 5, 6, and 7 OK
ATI3 Xircom CreditCard Modem CM-56T (release v2.08)
ATI 4 17

Thoughts or experiences are welcome...
