(PMOD) Generic PCTel modems

Oops! I mistakenly sent the following message to portmaster-users instead
of this list where it belongs. sorry for the double-post to those who are
subscribed to both lists! Anyway, on with the question:

Has anyone tried the Zoltrix PCTel HSP drivers with non-Zoltrix modems?
If so, how did it work? I've got a customer with one of these things, who
can't connect better than 4800 bps. They're running version 7.6005ms.
PCTel Modems with newer firmware have actually been working fairly well
with our PM3's, so I'd like to upgrade them. The problem is that this
modem is some generic piece of crap. The box it came in said "Netcom PCI
V.90 56k". I've looked all over and can't find any modem manufacturers by
the name of "Netcom". I have found "Netcomm", but they don't seem to have
any PC-Tel based modems. I haven't done the FCC id thing yet. If the
Zoltrix drivers won't work, I'll try that. If all else fails, I'm going
to give them a trusty LT winmodem--the more I use those things the more I
like them...

Anyway, can anyone give any feedback on using the Zoltrix drivers with
non-Zoltrix modems?
