This is Conexants entry into the SoftModem market (ala PCTel and Motorola)
Both the DSP and Controller functions are done on the host CPU.

The HCF modem has only the controller on the Host.

We are working to improve interoperability with these modems,
but in some cases, like this one, the client software is just crap.
It appears that their level learning algorithm needs a lot of work.
(level learning == weird rattling noise in the middle of training)

For now, try:

at+ms=K56

this will force a K56Flex connection.

If there are still problems, then:

at+ms=v34

this will force a V34 connection.
