Single username for both shell and PPP (merit radius)

Does anyone have a _functional_ installation of merit radius that is
using a single username for shell and PPP?

I know MERITs version of radius is supposed to be able to do this
using the NAS Service-type 'hint'... but I can't get this to work.

If you are using a Portmaster, merit's version of radius, and you got
this to work, please email me :)

(Or even better, email me brief copy of your PM config and radius users
file...)
