Once upon a time Steve Hsieh shaped the electrons to say...
>Can someone explain to me how one can use the start/stop packets for
>accounting purposes *IF* "no hangup" is enabled on the portmaster?

It wasn't designed to be used with no hangup - any normal use leaves
hangup on. START packets are only generated with the first connection.

>If on the other hand, 'no hosts' is turned off so that the user is
>disconnected upon termination of the current session, then it *is*
>possible to do real time accounting. Is this an accurate statement? If
>so, is this a bug with the portmaster or intentional in design (and if so,
>why?!)?

'no hangup' is meant for abnormal operation.

>own pm setup? How do you get around this?

Why the heck do you have 'no hangup' on?
