I think we already agreed the built-in notifications aren't sufficent

With most customers of ours anyway connecting for SLIP/PPP sessions they
somehow or other don't see the notification (agreed tihs is a problem
with PPP never having a provision for password expiry). They would
connect through a login script or a PAP session.
