USR Sportsters in yer modem pool is bad!! These things over heat
like hell... they will stop answering or connect at very low rates after
being used intensely!! You will be replacing these modems faster than
you will be adding new lines.
Solution to cheap modems? Well you could stick with desktop external
modems and go with the Couriers which some use (and they say it works).
Or go with a rack mount solution... the best we have found so far are
Hayes Optima Century2 16 ... We have had one "flaky" modem since our
evaluation. One flaky modem is not good, but these modems are
each swapable and provide the reliability that modems should have. You
could also go with USR Total Control Analog, USR Net Server, or USR-16..
My over all choice for Analog is Hayes, because they have great prices
& functionality for an ISP. But USR had a great ISP Program last month
that had great pricing.
The future is T1 PRIs... Digital modems are the best of course if your
local Bell company provides competitive pricing on these lines. This is
where a great Portmaster 3 is great to use!! Or USR Total Control.
Anyone care to give info on ADSL?
Sorry for being off topic!! Bell South is a monopoly!! Please help!!!
