However, I'm a bit unclear as to how user sessions are logged by RADIUS. I'm
aware that there is an accounting server that handles detailed logging, but I'd
like to avoid using it if possible. If only because I've also been told that the
authentication server can/does log user sessions. This would shorten my
development cycle. Presumably this is the log file referred to when starting the
radiusd daemon with the "-l" command line option. If not, what information is
logged in this log file?
Ideally this log file would contain the information I need. Otherwise, I'm going
to have to use the accounting server (i.e. create a RADIUS accounting client) to
log sessions. Even if the authentication server logged the start of a user session
I'm not sure how an end of session would be logged, since there doesn't seem to be
an appropriate message to send to the server.
As an aside, the Merit RADIUS (AAA Enhanced) server docs talk about a feature
called "customizable session logging" which allows you to capture session and
account information to a named file with one line per session. That's about all
the doc said, but this feature sounds like what I'm after. Anybody have any
insight on this?
So, is that about right, or am I way off base with all of this. I'd appreciate
any help in this matter.
Thanks in advance,
Douglas
