We've been getting that lately too. I've tracked the problem down to
phone lines, relatively certain... Consolidated really did a number on
our lines a week or so and then some fool bumped into the pole with his
truck shorting out several lines at one time and oddly enuff cstomers
were getting that error. The modems would seem to connect but other than
handshaking no traffic would be exchanged.

However, one of our customers is a local ham radio enthusiast and has been
complaining about over all reception problems. 'Course he's also been
yappin about the HARP project, says its gonna screw everything up....

...I've kinda laughed at him...be a shame if the joke's on me.
