In this case chances are there is a conflict between protocols being
negotiated between the AT&T paradyne and modems being used by the people
dialing in.

*At a previous job I observed that in general modems using AT&T chipsets
did not interoperate well with more common chipsets such as Rockwell.

* Also, if one modem is talking V.FC and the other modem V.34 and they are
able to negotiate a connection you may find the line being dropped about
20-30 minutes into the call due to incompatability.

* Excessive noise on the line can cause a connection to be dropped. Noise
can result from bad wiring, unsheilded cables, bad connectors, power
cables, old color TV's, etc.
