That is my suspicion at this point. I changed the login service from
Portmaster to Rlogin, and things started working fine. It would seem that
something within in.pmd is broken.

For me, this situation is far from ideal. When I was pushing this to the
various departments on campus, one of the big selling points was that in.pmd
cut down a lot on network bandwidth and system resources.

I hope I actually get to talk to Livingston tomorrow. We keep playing
telephone tag. Tech support folks must have this "sixth-sense." They always
seem to call when you've walked over to the machine room or stepped out to
lunch. :)
