We are using PM2e's with Multitech rack mount managed modems here. After
driving over for the second time to the office at 2am to reset the modems it
occurred to me that there has to be some way to have the Portmaster send an
ATZ (or any string) to the modem every so often. The modems here answer and
hang up on there own and consequentially get left in all types of states.
The modem management software can reset the modems from remote (once I get
snmp setup) but surely the PM must be able to refresh the modems
periodically while idle or at least after each connection terminates. This
seems like basic good sense to me, every bbs software, remote access
software etc I have ever seen refreshes the modems periodically. There is
of course the chance that I am being stupid, but I have been throught the PM
manual and pmconsole for win about twenty times and can't find anywhere to
set an init string. Does the portmaster have to be configured to just sit
and wait to see a connect string from the modem, or is software answering or
at least refresh a possibility. Any help will be extremely appreciated.
