We had the same problem (although just attaching the port and typing
AT would fix it... I think the modem got confused about the DTE baud
rate) until we started having the modems reset after each connection
and whenever DTR goes down. Here is the config string, which includes
some other useful stuff...
at$sb115200%e0s13=0&c4&d3&w0
$SB115200 - Serial port baud rate to 115200
%e0 - Disable escape code (+++)
s13=0 - Disable remote config request
&c4 - Reset on CD loss
&d3 - Reset on DTR loss
&w0 - Save it.
To configure the modems, I attached each port in turn and pasted the
string to the modem. A bit of a pain, but I havn't had to touch them
since.
