New Portmaster user (actually not in use yet, but soon will be if we can
get a few things settled on it).
We want to put PPP in hardware on the Portmasters, but one big thing
that we have run up against is the Idle-Timeout support.
The way that I understand that the Portmasters do idle-timeouts, its
based purely on whether there is information (of any kind) flowing.
Most PPP implementations that I'm aware of support a keepalive type of
filter setup (or something similar) that will let you specify what types
of packets will reset the idle-timer. Basically, this lets you
idle-timeout someone even if they are doing an occasional ping by
setting up the filter so that ping and other protocols that can be used
to "perpetuate an otherwise idle connection" (taken from our user
agreement) won't reset the idle-timeout, and the connection will still
be terminated after a certain time period.
We called Livingston tech support and they seemed to indicate that this
was not yet supported (but they would consider adding this support), but
I just wanted to ask all of you fine folks if you had found any way to
do this at present?
Any suggestions, ideas, code, etc. would be welcome and appreciated.
