You *should* be able to do this.
Get two async/sync Adtran CSU/DSU's and put them on each end of the 56k.
Attach them to ASYNCH ports on the PM's. Setup the PM for direct
connection network with a static IP address using PPP. Set the remote PM
to use that ip address for its default route. (ie setup all routing on
the PM to go through the IP address)
This should all work. The PM can route out the ASYNCH ports just as well
as the W port. (kinda makes you wonder why you need a W port at all)

They won't connect unless you put the adtran on both ends (I believe)
