I've heard that PM-2e and IRX can learn their initial IP address and
load the OS image using BOOTP/TFTP instead of the usual console program.
Does this actually work?
Does it even work when the flash ROM has been hosed and (hopefully) wiped
clean?
If this can work, it would make things a lot easier to setup a recovery
plan at work, and I'd have a use for one in another place as well. In
the first case, if I need to reload either box I have to rewire the
network to get the workstation with the console program and the dead
box together. In the other place, no workstation compatible with the
console platforms is even available. RARP would also be possible to do
in the second situation.
