Sportster test modes

I have a customer that I believe has poor phonelines coming into her home.
The phone company (GTE North) came to her home with their ohm meter and
tested the line and told her it was fine. The same thing they told me about
my phonelines that I had nothing but problems with until they finally
installed new ones. I would like to do some testing of my own and I see in
the USRobotic Sporter manual &T8 Initiates Analog Loopback with self-test
and error detector. How do I preform this test between the customer and my
Portmaster?
