I received a correction to something I just sent, so I want to clear it up.
I'm not very involved in the European arena and I was operating with an
erroneous understanding of E1 PRI and channelized E1.

>Plain wrong. PRI on E1 gives you 30B+D, plus one synchronization channel.
>E1-PRI maps as channel 0 is synchronization, channels 1-15 are B channels,
>channel 16 is the D channel, and 17-31 are B channels.
>
>Channelized E1 *also* gives you 30 user channels. Channel 0 is still sync,
>and channel 16 becomes the channel-associated-signaling bits. In the US,
>we put the CAS bits on every 6th frame in the user channel (thus dropping
>the bandwidth per DS0 to 56K). In Europe, they mux this on a separate 64K
>channel so that each DS0 is a 64K clear channel.
