non-PPP connections?

I have recently seen a problem where my users get non-PPP connections.
I'm using the .PPP suffix hack in radius, where users get PPP connections
if they login with a .PPP suffix, and normal rlogin sessions if they login
without it.

However, when I do a pmwho, I see users with a .PPP suffix who
have a normal (non-PPP connection). Here's an example:

S23 primo.PPP itchy.mosquito.c Login In ESTABLISHED 0 0
S25 tire.PPP dial47.mosquito. Netwrk In ESTABLISHED 2 1
S26 dcolande.PPP dial53.mosquito. Netwrk In ESTABLISHED 20 0
S27 farwalkr.PPP dial56.mosquito. Netwrk In ESTABLISHED 2 1
S28 gerryg.PPP dial48.mosquito. Netwrk In ESTABLISHED 17 6
S29 llopez.PPP dial37.mosquito. Netwrk In ESTABLISHED 0 0

Note the first line (primo.PPP) has the IP name of our default host rather than
a dialXX.mosquito.com address.

What could I be doing wrong?
