Nope, first there are a.out and ELF varieties of binaries. Older linux
kernels only understand a.out. Newer ones can understand either one or both.
The bad part is that the file locking protocol has changed from the 1.2
kernels to the 2.0 kernels. It requires that any program using file locking
with the older libraries be recompiled.
In addition the older 1.2 libraries have many know security holes so
any ISP will wnat to insist upon the newer libraries.
