I don't see why it would "require a total redesign of the IP address
assignment code". Just create a new variable for each port that holds the
assigned address. When it comes time for the PM to pick an address for
the slip/ppp session, it checks this variable, and if set uses that
address, otherwise continues on to the IP address pool as it currently
does.
