We had a similar problem on our linux boxes with trumpet winsock. We had =
to change the mtu value to 552 in trumpet for it all to work again.
I dont know if this applies to the portmasters.

Subject: PPP stalls on jpg files
I have a problem which is driving me nutty.
I can make a connection using ppp to the following modem and to=20
some extent it works. However the performance fluctuates with=20
netscape navigator reporting transfers of 1.2 - 1.4 bytes/sec
and then it will stall on jpg or gif files. Sometimes the
stall lasts for quite a while.
The report below indicates substantial framing errors
but I could be wrong given the throughput on the port.
I hve tried setting the asyncmap to ffffffffff at the client
side and I did get better ftp performance with vj compression
off and the default async map.
The Portmaster is an IRX 211.
I am using Linux at the client side so I can get a dump of=20
the packets but I don't know what to look for as to what the=20
problem might be.
Any tips/hints or even directions on what to look for most=20
greatfully accepted.
