Async modems on Sync ports

Does anyone have any "life stories" or howto's on attaching asynchronous
modems to the sync ports on the portmaster products. I am specifically
looking at a OR-LS, with both regular modems and external ISDN TA's.
What kind of adaptors are required, etc?

I also suspect that the sync ports are designed for continuous use and
cannot be setup for on-demand use.

I am starting to realize that this may have been a major oversight in
buying an OR-LS to use with an external ISDN TA (for on-demand use).
Wanted to use Livingston but OR-U does not have a POTS port!
