bit of help anyone?

Remember that routing question I had previously? Well, here's that same
thread back again for a bit. I'd appreciate a little help here if you
can swing it...

Here's the scoop. We've got the PM's on a class C given to us,
207.87.196.0. That's the subnet the ethernet port addresses are from.
Ok, now we wish our dial-up pools (assigned addresses) to come from a
different class C, 207.87.213.0. The previous suggestions made to me
were to subnet 207.87.213.0 into 32 address subnets. However, since we
have other equipment that uses that class C for dial-in addresses which
aren't 30 address beasts, this solution is not so perfect. Thus, the
goal is to have all dial-up IP's come from 207.87.213.0 and not have to
subnet it.

So far we've added a route for 207.87.213.0 on our 'Net gateway, and that
works fine. We've also set up our USR Netservers with a new netmask of
255.255.255.255 for 207.87.213.0 and it works fine. However, we can't
get this to work on a portmaster. Here's what I tried on the portmaster:

add netmask 207.87.213.0 255.255.255.0
set assigned 207.87.213.1
--Then I dialed in and got assigned 207.87.213.1
--Tried to ping anything other than the pm I dialed into and couldn't.
--Pinged the pm I dialed into no problem.
--Tried to traceroute and it goes from my dialed in machine to the
gateway and stops.
--Did a tcpdump on the session and noticed the gateway was doing a
"who-has" ARP and nobody was coughing up the answer (namely the
portmaster).

Next I tried entering a single static route for the address I dialed into
on the portmaster. This also didn't work, with basically the same
results.

Anybody want to take a shot at how to fix this? TIA
