Idle timeout one way?

I know I've seen this before on the list, but can't seem to find the
definitive answer, so pardon the repetition!

The unit: PM2eR with ComOS 3.3.3

Default timeout on the ports is set to 20 minutes.

We have a customer complaining that he gets cut off in the middle of long
downloads. I seem to remember a discussion on whether the PM idle timer
"sees" outgoing traffic on its serial port.

Now, as far as I recall, FTPing a file will create traffic in both
directions, but I could be wrong.

Any pointers appreciated.
