We get tons of customers switching away from other ISP's all the time.
They use a variety of modems, USR couriers, Microcoms, even Multitechs.
I've personally tested over 50 brands of modems with the multitechs. They
work just fine with 99% of the brands out there. You do have to know how
to configure them, though.
If they did not eat up so much rack space, and could be fed via a T1 or
PRI, I would keep them.
