Hmm, then this points to the need to adjust the init string on the new
modems only... What is the EXACT modem part number and UPC? Seems USR has
quite a few new .infs etc for Win95 and Mac which indicates they have have
had to tweak them after the fact.
Get a part number here and I'm sure someone has an init string for you.
